German foreign policy is beginning to realise the geopolitical importance of South Asia. While the main focus is on India, Pakistan is often overlooked. In our Working Paper No. 11/2018, I thus argue for a coherent strategy that takes the entire subcontinent into account. in early 2018, NATO decided to adapt its command structure, and Germany offered to host one of the two new headquarters envisaged. The new Joint Support and Enabling Command will be based in Ulm, Southern Germany, where the Bundeswehr Joint Support Service already runs a Multinational Joint Headquarters.
